T3 B21: Badminton Camp

SO, Badminton camp today. It was a lot of fun. My mom signed me up for the intermeddiate/advanced, so it was kind of hard I guess. She signed me and my sister for the camp because she thought we needed more exercise. Which is pretty fair, but still, I'll rather walk 2 laps around the park every day than go to badminton camp. Well, to tell the truth, badminton camp isn't so bad. There were some people we recognized from the badminton lessons. But everybody was really good. It's a big difference from the beginner class. Anyways, I still remember the badminton instructor, and I think he still remembers me and my sister. Today, when he was introducing himself to the parents, when he said his name, Richard, i heard wrong and I thought he said Widget. Then my sister heard me and thought I said Midget. So now his nickname's Midget Widget. Weird, right? Still, it makes us laugh everytime. Anyways, at least I'll be able to stay fit throughout spring break.

T3 B20: A Bright, Sunny, Day.

HELLO! Dapple Grey speaking. Haha, I'm in such a better mood at the moment. Looking out the window, it's so bright and sunny, it's almost impossible to be feeling gloomy. I went for a walk outside, just because the weather was great, and I'll probably not get a chance to do it again until Summer. Well, some of my friends were online today, so I  had great conversations with them. Don't worry, I still had time to do my homework. I better not slack off too much. I'm determined to make the best out of this spring break. The great part: I get to do a whole lot of planning. Alas, something I'm actually pretty good at. The hard part? Actually following the plan itself. There is always, always, something I have to do that interrupts my schedule, and throws the whole thing off. Either that, or I spend time doing other things that take up a lot of time, and then I'm too lazy to continue with my plan. But noooo, this spring break is going to be different. I'm determined to not procrastinate. I. will. work.
(but of course, there will always be time to play!) Oh yeah, I got cheered up a little more, because I got to talk to some travelling friends, in New York and other places. Glad to see that they're having fun.
A Superblog is on it's way,

T3 B19: "Napoleon"

Ok, I'm going to start counting my blogs, or else I'm going to lose track, since I'm updating Mr. Olson anymore. Today was fun, I guess. I just felt really lonely and missed my friends. Ahh, going on like this is going to make me more depressed. Well, look at the bright side, at least they weren't ALL gone. I had some friends who were staying home too, and we might just plan a Stay-cation.
Well, tonight we kind of had a movie tonight, but not really. We just turned on the TV, and there happened to be a movie going on at that moment, so I watched it, and eventually, the others joined in to watch. It was a cute, little film called "Napoleon", and it's kind of old, I guess. There's this little puppy called Muffin, and somehow he got in this basket with balloons. He travels everywhere, trying to find the "wild dogs". All he relies on is this howl that he thinks comes from the wild dogs. When he finds the owner of the howl, he realizes that it was only a kimono dragon making the noise. It was kind of sad at that point, because he was totally lost, and couldn't get home. Well, he manages to find a real wild dog, who has a kangaroo friend, who takes Muffin home. And once he gets home and tells his mother his adventure, the last thing he says in the movie is "Mom? I don't want to be called Muffin anymore, I want you to call me Napoleon." Awww. The movie was just too cute. I think our whole family eventually joined in to watch.

Free at last!

It just hit me today, that Spring Break's already here. It feels like I took a super long nap and then woke up half a year later. I am happy of my new freedom, but I do miss my friends. I was never good at saying Good-byes, they always make me terribly sad, no matter what, even if I know I'll see them again soon. Well, Alex and Vivian L left for New York yesterday, and I bet they's having a lot of fun at the moment. Still, part of me wished that I had signed up before, but then again, I'm glad that I didn't, because I would rather spend my time at home, with family and friends, and going on "Stay-cations." It makes me happy and sad to see "Southlands" on the list, since it's like one of my favourite places, and my second home. I go riding there, and it makes me so happy to be in the "country" part of Vancouver. Judy and I were talking about going there for spring break, but we're probably just dreaming, since our parents would never let us go. But one day, I'll find a way. I'm determined to.
Stay tuned,

St. Pattie's Day

It's too bad I don't own any green clothing, because I would definitely have worn it today. Well, I did have a green barrette that I wore during the day, so that was okay. Also, I thought there were going to be a King of Hearts type of thing again, but they didn't haven't. I had friends who were confused over what colour clothing to wear, since they were encouraged to wear green for St. Patrick's Day, and red and white for Japan.
Anyways, I had to arrive at school at 9:10 today, since my siblings have elementary school, and no one else could drive me at 10. I spent most of my time by my locker, trying to study for the Socials test. Well, it took me a long time, and by the time Socials came, I still hadn't finished studying. I guess I didn't do too bad at the test, but I hadn't exactly done too good either. I just hope that there are other tests that I'll do that'll make up for it.
Science turned out to be the most interesting class today. We had a debate on whether activity should be taken to control invasion of alien species from ballast tanks. I was on the port official side, and I guess it was pretty hard, since I was totally against my own group. But that's what makes a good debater: to have good points no matter what side you're on. Well, the class was pretty passionate about this, and it wasn't long before we were all on our feet argueing and yelling at each other. We all had really strong opinions, and just couldn't wait to say them. What happened was that the port officials teamed up with the ecologist to go against the first nations and the fishermen. I think Mrs. Davidson distributed us really well, since we had really good debaters on all sides. But even she had trouble trying to control us, since we kept getting overly-excited. But I thought it was awesome, and I hope we get to do another one, since this was one of the best debates I've had.
Stay tuned,

Second volleyball session

I forgot to mention I had my last skating lesson yesterday! Okay, before I went onto the rink, there were toys scattered all over the place. So I did a warmup lap, and then our teacher called us in to start our "party". I was kind of disappointed that we wouldn't get to learn anything new during the last day, but she said we were going to play lots of games, so I guess that cheered me up. The first thing she mentioned was an obstacle course, and she turned in the direction of the scattered toys. For a moment, I thought she was just kidding, but she skated towards it like she wanted us to follow. I didn't know how we could manage to do it. I'm pretty sure it was made of little kids, because we had to crawl through some of the toys, and we were too big to fit through. Eventually, Lianna gave up trying to make us do it, so we headed back to the far side of the rink. Well, we played octopus, circle tag, and chain tag, and eventually it was time to go. It was an awesome last class though! Lianna also mentioned that she taught private Figure skating classes, so I asked her about it, and hopefully my mom would agree and sign me up.
So, we had our second volleyball class, and I wish we could have more, because it's so awesome! I got to practice my serving this time, and it's getting better! Too bad, it's one of the only things that I'm good at. Well, our team was ok, just that the boys kept trying to spike or, hit the ball with their arms everytime, and it would just go flying. One time, he hit it so hard, it went flying off to the bleachers, that was over the net, on the other side...I still don't know how he managed that. Well, me and Natasha got a lot more practice in, and I can't wait until our next class! Yes, this is one of those first times that I've looked forward to PE.
Good night,
Dapple Grey

Achoo!

Oh no, it seems like everyone's sick these days. My sister has a fever, and she looks terrible. I feel really sorry for her, having a fever feels like the worst thing ever. So I do help her a lot, but we I can, keep a distance from her, to prevent myself from getting sick. It would be horrible to be sick this week, especially since it's right before spring break, and there are a lot of projects due after. Also, I wouldn't be able to enjoy myself as much, and instead I'll be spending my days in bed, wishing that I wouldn't be sick.
Today, I spent more time with my hamster, since he's kind of getting anti-social. He's always been really scared of things, and always jumps and freezes whenever there is a sudden noise. At least he's still coming out into the open to eat and drink. During spring break, I'm going to let him out into the playring everyday, since I won't be busy anymore. That way, I can have more interaction time with him.
Stay healthy,

Walking right out of mangas...

If you haven't noticed yet, we have Japanese exchange students in our school. Most of us were still knitting, and didn't really catch the announcements, so I only caught the word "Japan". Mimi and I were walking to English, when she spotted a Japanese student in a uniform. She thought it was just another student dressing up, but then she saw another. She told me about it, and it was true: as we walked to English, we saw another and another, and eventually a whole group of them! Well, actually, I only saw girls. They had dark blue uniforms and a skirt, both with white trims. Mimi was kind of freaking out, or should I say, overexcited. After school, Mimi, Cynthia and I hung around outside for a bit, and at first, it was just some of the Japanese students were walking out, but then more came walking out. Eventually, a big group of them walked out of the school, and we saw them all together for the first time. We just stared and stared...That was when I finally noticed the boys' uniforms. They were all black with yellow buttons down the middle. It was just so cool, seeing them all there, speaking rapid Japanese! Mimi commented that they looked like they walked straight out of a manga or anime, because they had uniforms that looks pretty much the same, which is probably why she was so fascinated.

Title Change!

As you can figure out by now, I've changed my blog title. I just felt that it needed to be more interesting. I mean, I've kept "Class AS Project" for a long time, and all of the sudden it seemed a little dull. I've had it since the first day when I was making my blog, and I couldn't find a name for it. Well, now it's called "Put It In Writing" which sounds more creative, I guess.
This morning, when I went into the washroom, I was all calm and relaxed. That was until I bent down to pick up my slippers and saw it. Two bugs. There was one on the ground, that was small, but had many legs, kind of like a centipede (or a millipede?). Then there was a big fly sitting right above the mirror. For some reason, I was just terrified and just froze there. It's not like I have bug phobia, or something. I just get totally creeped out. I mean, I've heard all those nursery rhymes about cute little harmless bugs, but this was different. I know I may seem like a giant to those tiny bugs, but they sure scare me a lot. My mom just scooped them up and placed them outside. I don't know how she does that, I guess I'll have to work on it.
After lunch I had piano again, but I didn't stay that long because my dad came to pick me and my sister up after we were done, and my brother was still playing piano. I got extra time to do my English poem analysis which sure took a lot more time than I expected. Actually, analyzing the actual poem wasn't so hard. It was just finding a good, simple poem that took forever. While I was working, it sounded like a storm was raging outside, and the rain was just pounding on my window. It got so loud, that when my sister came into my room, she got scared that the earthquake would hit soon. Well, the storm has calmed down quite a bit, but she sure got me thinking about that earthquake again...
Just after I had my piano lesson, my mind was still fresh on the topic of music. That got me thinking, we were playing this song in band called "Friend Like Me", from the Disney movie "Aladdin." No matter how hard I think of it, I only faintly remember that song, and I can't remember the scene where they played it. "Aladdin" was one of my favourite movies growing up, and so I was really wondering about this song. Well, I searched for it online, and this is what I got. NOW I remember. I hope you enjoy it, too!

Whoa, it sounds quite different with the vocal line. Of course, the instrumental part was only in the background, but it's more jazzy and way faster than the speed we play. Nevertheless, it sounds totally amazing, and I love the cute little part with the monkey at the end. Maybe my memories of Aladdin are getting rusty. In fact, maybe I'll go watch it again....after I finish my homework, of course.
A superblog like I promised,

The day time skips an hour

Well, nothing really happened today. I did a total cleanup of my room, and now it's a lot more emptier, but it feels really nice now that it's clean. Tonight, we had a family night, and just watched TV while eating popcorn! YUM! Except for the fact that the whole kitchen and living room smells like popcorn now...After that, we each had a warm mug of tea (no caffeine, of course) and just sat together, sipping our tea. It was so warm, and it was right after I took my shower, so it felt awesome! We really should have family nights more often, it feels so great! After this, I'm just going to sit in bed and knit. I really need to spend time on my knitting after having a slow start. It just takes so long to knit rows, and it's something you can't really procrastinate on. I'm determined to not put off everything until the last minute for this term. Anyways, my dad has already decided to set our clocks a hour ahead, so now it looks pretty late. Now that I think of it, I'm getting sleepier, and I should go to bed now. Sorry for the shorter post today. I just need to catch up on my sleep...
Superblog tomorrow, I promise.

What if today was your last?

Socials was all talk about the Japan earthquake. How it was so big and disastrous, and how it killed so many people. After going on and on, we discussed our situation, how it might be coming towards us, and how doomed we are. What scared me the most was talk about how safe our school was, and the dangerous and safe parts of the classroom. How an earthquake could strike at anytime during our lifetime, and whether or not we would live. Everyone started having side conversations on worst case scenarios, and I wish we never had to talk about earthquakes. Mr. Sale just loves scaring us...Well, we didn't spend the whole class talking about earthquakes at least (Phew!). We also got a desk change. I've moved from my lovely comfortable spot by the window and the heater to the middle of the classroom. Well, it isn't so bad actually, I just have need more time to settle in, and at least it's only for one term. I'm now sitting in the middle of the classroom, beside Josh and Kevin D. (also, the middle of the class is considered the most dangerous in an earthquake situation!) Sitting in the middle is way different, and I'm in the first row, under the watchful eyes of Mr. Sale. But change is good. Well, we got to see our percentages and I got a 83%. Darn. But at least I've improved from last term, and I'm sure happy about that. We spent the rest of the class discussing ancient China, and as interesting as it is, I'm never going to be able to remember all the names of the dynasties, let alone the emperors and the kings.
In Science, we had this huge test, but I didn't really have time to check over, so I'm hoping I did well on it. It took way longer than I expected it to take, and also harder.
During band, Ms. Olson wasn't here today, so we just practiced our sight reading and scales with Mr. Hurst. He just had to mention that he was going to make us do 5/6 recordings for the last term, which is such a difference from our usual 2/3. I can't believe it! I guess I really should find time everyday to practice. This time, we played songs that we haven't played in quite a while (Bluesville, Smooth, and Flight of the Condor), which was good, since I almost forgot how one of them sounded. Looking back, I'm quite amazed at how far I've come since I've first started, and I sure have gotten more confident. Alex and Cynthia had to leave earlier for the district science fair, so GOOD LUCK to them both!

Knitting..over and over again

So, I had my first knitting lesson from April. I got to say, it wasn't that hard, and it looked very simple when April showed me, but somehow, I just couldn't do it. I managed to get it right near the end, so I at least got a little done. At home, I couldn't remember the right why of doing it, and got it mixed up. Sigh, now I'll have to start over. At least I haven't knitted that much yet, and I sort of know how to do it. I guess I'll ask April for more lessons tomorrow. The thing is, I know how to do it once I get started, but starting the first line is pretty hard. Hopefully, I'll remember and be able to catch up on my knitting during the weekends.
Also, today was our last weight lifting class! I'm not that happy about it, because it really has helped me, and it was more fun than doing sports. We do get volleyball for 3 classes (a week) after this, but I'll sure miss weight lifting. I'm so glad Mr. Dykstra has been nice enough not to give us any written tests on anything so far this term, because I have a lot of friends complaining about how hard the test is going to be. I wonder how volleyball's going to be, but I really look forward to it, even if it's only 3 classes.
In French we watched "Mission: Possible" which was kind of weird and cheesy, but kind of interesting. The bad thing was, we had to watch it two times, even though some of us already knew what it meant, because it was mostly in French.
Whoa. The big surprise was when I walked into English. The desks had completely changed. Instead of being lined up in rows, they formed a huge circle. It was kind of fun sitting like this, since we could see everyone else. I think the last class was doing Shakespeare, so it was easier for them. Well, we did poetry today, and it was pretty fun. We got into groups of 2/3 and picked a poem to analyze. It wasn't really hard, and it was so fun! Later, we got to present them. The presenters today was really good, and it even amazed Mrs. Greskiw. Mimi, Leslie and I were supposed to go, but we were interrupted midway when the bell rang. Oh well, we get to finish them next class. It somehow feels different presenting in the middle of a circle, then in front of all these rows of people...
Stay tuned,

A rainy, stormy day.

The sky was already pretty gloomy when I woke up. The ride to school was cold, and when I got out of the car, it was raining a lot. Thankfully, I didn't have P.E. today, since I wasn't in the mood for running around and feeling energetic. Well, I headed straight for math, and we had this big math test today, one of those that take the whole period. I finished it in a few minutes, and it only took me a couple more to check over five times. After that, I was pretty sure I got it all right. So I just sat there, I had like 40 minutes left, and I was thinking of ways to use up my time. I really wished I had my knitting things, because then I could have just used up all that time. But my knitting things were at home, because I was figuring out how to knit the night before. I just sat and predicted today's events, and then started practicing my art skills (doodling!). Well, in the end, she (Mrs. Kobbi) collected the tests early, so I didn't really have to spend much time waiting.
In Socials, we had Condomania, and yeah, I guess we dealt with it fine. Well, for most people it was uncomfortable and awkward, and some had to step out because they were "feeling sick". Moving on...
For science, we had a review class, went over everything we learned in the chapter. We had a lot of note-taking, and a lot of preparing for the test, which I'm kind of scared of now that I think of it.
Band was last, and it was the best. Ms. Olson makes us do cool, unique things everytime. Last time, did marching, and this time we had singing. We had to sing our parts to "Friend like me" from Aladdin. The flutes all had to go down an octave, because we couldn't sing that high even if we tried really hard. We were just so quiet and sounded so pathetic, Ms. Olson just made us go back to our instruments. Anyways, that all started because the trumpets sang out their solos just for fun. It was really funny though, and it sure got the entire band laughing. Band has really got to be fun, and I enjoy it way more than before. It's really gone from the bottom of the list to the top, and that's quite a feat.
G'night!

First day of Knitting!

Hey! Dapple Grey reporting!
I was all excited for applied skills. First we did GO, and then we started our knitting project. What we had to do was take all the yarn "guts" out from the inside, so we could find the end. I think mine yarn was rolled up in a messed up way, or I took it out wrong, because pretty soon it became a big, tangled mess. So during Kevin Z and Tony's brain presentations, I was busy fixing the knot. I manged to almost get it at the end of class, and i was still unraveling during the break before P.E. I managed to free the huge knot, so I had a tiny-ish ball of yarn.
P.E. was different today. We went to the other side of the gym for some reason, and we had warm up there. We couldn't run outside in the rain, so we ran the bleachers instead. Then right after, Dykstra decided to make us do skipping. I'm not a fan of skipping, since I've never done it much when I was smaller. Also, I still remember how tired I was after the first time we did skipping. It was better this time though, but I still haven't increased my score much. Natasha was waay more bouncier today, and she did more than 600? I have no idea how she managed that, she seemed to have a ton of energy today. It was back to the weight room after that, and we only need stairs and dips until we're finished two sheets! I can't believe how fast we go. This time, we only needed 4 classes per sheet! I hope we can beat our score next time.
French was another silent work period. She assigned us textbook work on the board, and we just wrote and wrote and wrote. But actually, it doesn't really seem that long. It wasn't really fun, but not totally boring at the same time. Still, time just flies past.
In English, we started out with a little of poetry, but Mrs. Greskiw had a headache, and since we had our knitting project, she let us knit for the whole block. I had finally unraveled my knot, so for the whole of this period, I just watched as my yarn ball grew bigger and bigger. April helped me out a lot, because she could ravel yarn so fast, it surprises me. I just made sure that there were no more knots. THANKS APRIL! At the end, there was a small clump of knots all tied up that we couldn't untangle, so we had to cut the string, but my yarn ball is still pretty big. Now, I'm just really glad that I have a yarn ball, and hopefully, after all those knitting videos and more help from April, I'll be able to knit.
Sorry about going on and on, but I promise, this is the last bit of information for today. I had my second-last skating lesson today, and it was awesome! We warmed up with bunny hops, which were so easy, but harder today because one of my skates were kind of loose. After I re-tidied it, we did some waltz jumps. I've been practicing those forever, and was so close to perfecting it, when Lianna decided to teach us sow cows. I've actually done those before, but they're pretty hard. I spent a long time practicing those (I still can't get them right) until we played another game of freeze tag at the end. I'm glad to say, that this class was the best skating class we ever had.
Stay tuned,

The beginning of another week...

For some reason today, I woke up extra early. I don't know why , maybe it was the sun shining through my windows, or just that sense of freshness of a new week, a chance to start over....You know what that means, Spring is on it's way! Or you may know it as, Persephone is on her way back from Hades! You would have to be paying attention during the god presentations to figure that one out. Spring is really just around the corner, only 2 more weeks! Yet I still can't believe that I've made it this far, and time just seems to disappear so much more quickly these days.
So a journey through today's events:
Math was just math, sitting there, feeling really tired, yet trying to finish the worksheet so I wouldn't have homework. We have a test next week, and every time, our math teacher gives us these big review sheets. They take forever to finish, and just when you think it's over, there are more questions on the back...
Socials was a tad bit more interesting. We're starting Ancient China with all the dynasties and Chinese emperors/kings, and I'm really going to feel miserable on the day we have the test, because there are a lot of weird names that I don't think I'll ever be able to memorize. Mr. Sale already assigned us a quiz on Friday, and I have no clue how I'm going to finish studying by then. We did a TON of notes today.
Science was ok, I guess. We did some more notes on pressure and did a lot of worksheets that were handed out. Then she handed us back or work that she marked. Now that was confusing. I guess she's not used to our class having double names (2 Vivians, 2 Kathys, 2 Kevins) so when she called Vivian, she didn't say the last name. I just got up to take my work back, since Vivian L was doing something else. 3 times now, me and Vivian had to exchange our work because she got ours mixed up. Oh well, I can't blame Ms. Davidson, I'm still not really used to having another Vivian in the class. Whenever someone calls our name, we both turn around. I just can't help it, it's just a reaction now, I can barely control it, even though I know the person is calling the other Vivian.
Band was just fun. We didn't really have to do rhythms today, just a lot of sight reading. Sight reading's actually not that bad, we played some really cool famous tunes, except they were kind of old, so no one really recognized them, except for "The star-spangled banner." It was all really fun to play. Ms. Olson took over after that, and we had to do the pieces with incredibly high, and fast notes. I totally just lost my breath after that, and just sat there in my chair, resting. I hope I get used to playing my flute soon, because I really can't blow out for as long as everyone else can.
Well, I guess I really can't avoid that socials quiz. Gotta start studying!

Sunday, March 6, 2011

Just a normal, typical Sunday.

Wonder what I do on Sundays? Well, the tell the truth, not much. I wake up later in the morning, and I like to think I'm nocturnal, because I just love the comfort of the night. It's so much quieter and peaceful...My mom's always telling me that if I want to be like this, then I should just sleep earlier and get up earlier. So I could have a peaceful morning instead. Hmmmm, I wonder what that would be like. Next weekend, I'm going to go try it.
So, on Sunday's I have my piano lesson, and it takes up pretty much all of my day. I spend let's see...5 hours there. No joke. I go at 1 for a mock theory exam. I'm taking a music history exam in May, so my teacher gives me mock exams to prepare for it. They take an hour. I barely had time to study this week, with all the tests and end of term stuff. I'm glad I passed though, even though I've convinced my teacher that I need to take it again next week. I want to make sure that I've actually studied for it. We take an hour to mark, well actually, it's half an hour each, my teacher still has to mark my sister's mock exam. After that, my sister has an hour of piano lessons, in the time where I do my homework or practice the piano upstairs. My teacher has a grand piano, so it's so cool to play on! I have my piano lesson after that, which was great. I managed to memorize a 5-paged song, but this week i have to finish a 9-paged one. At least I can do 3 pages of it! My teacher says a have to practice the two memorized ones, so that I don't drop one of them. I really hope I have time this week, because I don't want to have to re-memorize. Then my brother plays for an hour after that, and my sister and I just go outside to play with the dog, Nino. He's the awesomest dog ever. I think I've mentioned him before. Today, he was just chewing just bone. Just sat there chewing and chewing and chewing...Man, the bone must have tasted really good, because it sure made me hungry looking at him chew it. We got bored after a while, and went back inside, which was also a lot more warmer than outside. So you see, my Sundays are basically taken up by music. But I don't mind that much, I love it! Also, I'll just have to finish all my homework on Saturday.
P.S. My new plan is to somehow convince my mom to let me ride again. Just talking to a friend yesterday about it, made me realize how much I miss it. She can't tear me away from something I love...

Knitting Shopping

Sigh. Back to Metrotown I go. You guessed it: knitting shopping. It was pretty cool. Zellers has like a whole back wall of yarn. I just walked around and around trying to decide which ones I should get. The fluffy ones were so tempting-I couldn't help it, they were so soft! But I doubt I would be able to knit one, since I've never done knitting before. After a few rounds of endless circling, I've finally got my too spools of yarn. They're kinda big, so I didn't buy more than that. Anyways, the colour is gray and one, and it looks pretty awesome. I can't wait to see it turn into a scarf! There was this other one I kind of wanted to get, it was cream-coloured, but at the last minute, I realized it was 25% cotton, and so I put it back. Oops, I should be more careful. The yarn I got was 100% Acrylic, so I don't have to worry. Did I mention that Zellers also have tons of knitting equipment? There were tons of kneedles, and although I couldn't get my hands on a 15mm bamboo one, I got a plastic-y one instead. Oh well. I think my mom has a 8mm bamboo one lying around the house somewhere. Also, I FINALLY found a crochet hook, and it was 6mm, too. PERFECT! Oh! I just can't wait! Knitting's supposed to be really fun!
I should get to sleep now.
G'night!

The first Superblog!

Okay, a whole bunch of things happened today, so don't be scared of this long-ish post. First of all, this is my first Superblog, or at least the first for this term. Anyways, we have to do one at least once a week, so this is going to be really awesome.
First we had applied skills, and we actually managed to do a whole bunch of brain presentations today: April, Natasha, Carina, and Mimi. There's been so many delays and problems, that it didn't seem likely that we would get through two. They were all really interesting, and I sure had a lot of fun doing their activities. Since we only have like three more people left, we have to bring our knitting supplies next class. Yessss! This is going to be awesome! To tell the truth, I haven't knitted before, and Jessie said she'll teach me. I can't wait! After this, I'll be able to knit myself scarves, instead of going out to buy them. Also, when you make your own stuff and wear it it makes you feel a lot more proud. I'm going knitting shopping tomorrow, since I couldn't find a 15mm knitting at the dollar store. I'm pretty sure I'll find it at Zellers, though. A lot of friends have already recommended it for knitting. I'm too excited!!!
After that, I had applied skills. I totally forgot that Dystra wasn't going to be here today. Mr. McGillivray told us that Dykstra was away in Victoria with the basketball team. So we joined up with his class for what they called "warm up". Normally, Mr. Dykstra would make us go in a circle, and someone would lead, and we would do all sorts of things like jumping jacks, lunges, jogging, etc. But with this class it was a lot different. Everyone just found a place at the mat where Mr. McGillivray told us to do 10 pushups, 10 crunches, and then planks. It was really weird, both me and Natasha were expecting more. Then we ran the bleachers. Having two class combined is definitely not a good idea. Our class was so crowded, we were barely running, it was like speed walking. You could barely jog, there was just too many people. Eventually, our class went into the weight room, where natasha and I did tons of work. We almost completed our second sheet! Also, he let us out early, which Mr. Dykstra never did. I actually managed to get changed before the bell rang!
In French, we just had a lot of quiet work to do. It was really nice. We haven't had quiet work sessions in a long time, and it was just awesome. We had really weird discussions one time, including university talk. (between class mates that sat near me : Mimi, Joanna, Judy...) It was really weird. Most of the time I was quiet, because I didn't know what to say. I mean, they were talking about university! And this is just our first year in high school! It makes me feel that time is flying by waay to fast. They were discussing whether they wanted to go to Yale, Harvard, Stanford, and others in the Ivy League. It scares me to think, that in just four more years, I would be heading off to university? Oh, where has thy time went?
In English we finished off the rest of our god presentations. It was just Hypnos, Atlas, and Iris. They were all really interesting, especially Iris. Bad thing was, her presentation had so much information, my hands were so tired from taking so many notes. I took a whole page of notes! In the end, Mrs. Greskiw announced that we didn't have to do the gods test after all, which was fine with me, since I've already read up on all of them out of interest. We just had to focus on our book talk and book tests. I already have two of my book tests books, Rumours, and Envy, which are both awesome books! I did the first one, The Luxe, for my book test.
I'm actually going to try to work harder and finish my book tests earlier. Remember my vow for the cease of procrastination? It's actually working well so far! I hope it stays that way.
I haven't had much blogs where I talk about Synergy. But if you really want my point of view, this is what I think: The students in our class help each other learn through friendly competition. It's true. We all help each other, more than we realize. People organize homework boards, they ask each other for help all the time on Gmail. From looking at other people's work that is better than ours, we have an idea of what we can do to make our own better. It's really synergizing. Also, we have a lot of friendly competition around, not intense battles where one tries to be better than the other. What I find really amusing is how humble people can be in our class. From what I observe, we have what I like to call "compliment battles." One person would start it off by looking at someone's work and complimenting it, most of the time calling it neat and pretty. The other person, not wanting to brag or do anything like that would shoot a compliment back (yeah, but yours is so...) This would go on, compliments shooting back and forth. It's really cool and it definitely makes everyone feel better about their work.
Okay, speaking of competition, I have a video to show you guys ! I just figured out how to upload it. Anyways, it's on the topic of competition, and it's about a man and a woman, competing to see who's better at something, all the while singing a song. It's pretty funny, and my friend showed it to me when I was in grade five. By the way, this is what you're not supposed to be doing. You shouldn't have competitions like this where there is a winner and a loser for everything. It's called "Anything you can do" from the musical film "Annie Get Your Gun".
Enjoy!

*Warning: There are some parts of the videos that are kinda inappropriate and weird, but it should be only a few seconds of the video. The rest should be fine. It's really funny!

Here's the first one. It isn't the original, but it's still pretty good.

Here's the second video, but in a cartoon-ish form. There are  comments added to make it so much funnier!

An Interesting Band Class

I know, I know. It's pretty late for writing a blog. But I've spent the whole day working on the Sale forum, and I've just finished. Mostly, I've been doing extras, because I'm scared that my others ones aren't as good, and he might not count them. A LOT of people was on too, working like crazy and spamming the current events section. But hear me say this: I. Dapple Grey, promise from this day on, that I will cease my procrastinating. Or at least, try to minimize it. Yeah, that felt a whole lot better. I guess it'll be my goal for the rest of this year, and probably the year after that. It feels a lot better when I say it out loud, because it just sounds more...real.
Anyways, we had Math first, which wasn't so bad, except for the fact that we had a pop quiz today. We did some more graphing, and I got really confused because there were a lot of dots on mine, and I wasn't really sure if I should join them or not.
In Socials, we finally finished the Columbine documentary, and we had a long talk with Mr. Sale after about if the documentary was being bias or not. According to Mr. Sale, the guy doing the documentary actually cut parts of the movie and joined it with another part, so the person talking didn't actually say it. Wow. I always thought that the other people were just being really mean and weird, but they didn't actually say it.
In Science, we had a quiz on pressure and hydraulic/pneumatic systems, as I happy because it was pretty easy. Then we learned how to measure pressure, and it was fun, since it was kind of like math class all over again. Too bad we didn't do any experiments with our student teacher, her experiments are so awesome! Like last time when we got to build a tower from paper. The bad thing is, she said we have a big test next Wednesday, so I guess I have to study for that over the weekends.
Now, lastly is Band. The band teacher, Mr. Hurst wasn't here today. I'm not sure why, but Ms. Olson said that he wasn't sick either. Anyways, we had a substitute teacher, except that she wasn't a music teacher, so Ms. Olson got to teach us for the whole class. Have I mentioned that Ms. Olson is one of my favourite teachers? Her teaching style is so fun, and she's almost saying funny things that always manages to make us laugh, even when we're in a bad mood. We played really fun and easy songs today, and then we got to play Colonel Bogey, which is one of my favourites. She told us about this song that she used to sing when she was in girl guides, and it was to the tune of Colonel Bogey. It was really, really funny, and I can't really remember the lyrics at the moment. Anyways, the flutes were getting ready to play because we had a solo for the first quarter of the song. So we played for about two bars, when Ms. Olson started singing her girl guide song. My lip started curling up into a smile, and by that time I could barely keep my self from being distracted. I could barely play, because playing a flute needed a great deal of concentration. Anyways, we got through one more bar, before the entire flute section (just the four of us) collapsed into laughter, and just started laughing and laughing. It was really funny. Ms. Olson didn't really blame us, since she sang the song in the first place. We started the song again, and this time she didn't sing, but the memory was still fresh in our minds, so you could see some of us stop, get a straight face and start again. Later, since Colonel Bogey was a slow march, she made us stand up and march with our feet. It's actually way harder than I thought it would be. It was even harder when she made us life our knees higher. I could barely play my flute, since I was moving so much.
Writing this blog just made me burst out laughing!

Presenting...the Hades puppet show!

Okay, in French class today, we made an acrostic poem with adjectives describing a person. Well, actually that was homework from before. What we did today, was that we had to make this poster, and decorate it. We spent the whole class doing it, but it's pretty fun actually. It's due by the end of next class, and I still have to finish writing it, fine line it, and colour it. Sigh, it's going to take a long time, but I want to make it look as neat and pretty as possible. Hopefully my French mark isn't going down.
Okay, you're probably wondering about the weird blog title, right? Well, it all had to do with today's English God Presentations. First, I passed my book tests! And we were also talking about how what we're going to do next term. In the end, we all agreed that we should do 1 book talk, and two book tests, just like this term. I don't really want to do another book test, but Mrs. Greskiw says that we don't have to write a book report, so I guess it's less pressure. Oh well, at least I can improve my public speaking skills. Ok, back to god presentations. So first up was Dionysus, Ares, and Orpheus. I'm not sure how they're all related, but they sure did a good job presenting. Dionysus was a pretty cool god, he had a lot of cool myths, one of them including how he was born (from Zeus thigh, can you believe it?) Well, his mother was actually Semele, the daughter of my goddess, Harmonia. Ares was just awesome. He was in full costume, helmet, armor, spear and all. He was pretty smart, he taped his script to the back of his shield, so he just looked down whenever he needed a que. Orpheus' story was really sad, not only did his wife die, but when he had an agreement with Hades to try to get her back, (he couldn't look back at her until he was on earth again) he accidentally looked back and lost her forever. When he got back on earth again, he was killed by worshipers of Dionysus. So sad.... They did a play together on King Midas, (Dionysus gave him the gold touch) Austin was King Midas, and he was a pretty good actor, actually. Next was April, yes, the almighty famous Hades. So she had her presentation, and she from the looks of it, she was pretty nervous, but she still did well. Near the end, she was going to tell the Persephone story (she kidnaps Persephone and brings her back to Hell) but instead, she did a puppet show. It was really imaginative, funny, and just totally awesome. She got the whole class laughing really hard. It was just amazing, she could do really well even when she's not even trying. She had stuffed animals as the characters, but that made it even funnier, especially the time when she got the Zeus stuffy mixed up with the Demeter stuffy. After her turn was Roy, or Jason, the hero with the golden fleece. I don't really know this story really well, so I sure found out a lot today. Next class, we have the rest of the presentations, but I wish we could do more. It's so awesome!
In P.E. today, we did a lot of weight-lifting, and since we started a new sheet, we had to do the same machines over again. This time we did them, they all felt strangely light. It was so cool, so I actually did get stronger! But they still take up a lot of energy, and I bet my arms are going to be really tired and sore again tomorrow.
By the way, Mr. Olson, it would be awesome if we could have a skating field trip. It's so fun! Maybe we could do it before spring break, to celebrate the ending of Term 2?
Stay tuned for tomorrow,

First third term blog!

Whoa. Time just flies, doesn't it? Just think, in a little more than two weeks, it's going to be spring break! Already? I'm still stuck thinking that it's still January. Where has all the time gone? It's already March! I still can't believe this....
Phew. I was almost late for Math class, but as soon as I walked in, the bell rang. We did a lot of graphing today, and so the teacher had to do a lot of work on the overhead projector. The dark was so comfortable, and it made me want to go to sleep. It's even worse that Math is first thing in the morning, because I'm always so tired, and feel like falling asleep. I just keep yawning and yawning...Also, the teacher said that she was going to post our marks the next day, so I can't wait to see how I'm doing.
In socials, we watched this movie on Columbine, this really bad shooting in Littleton, but it was actually really interesting. There were some gruesome parts to it, like the parts where they talked about guns and shootings and horrible shooting scenes. But the guy doing the movie interviewed a lot of interesting people, especially weird and crazy ones. There was this one guy, who I found especially interesting. He lived on a big farm, and he often had weapons around in case some one attacked him. The most surprising thing? He had  a huge gun right underneath his pillow, and it was loaded! We took the day off watching the movie since we've just finished the last religion test, and we were all stressed out from studying for them.
We had skating after school, and since I had just sharpened my skate blades, it felt really weird skating on the ice. It wasn't as smooth as before, and it felt like I it hard and unnatural against the ice. Liana said that I just needed to scrape it more on the ice. I hope it gets better by next week. We only have two more lessons left. Sigh. I wish these lessons could go on forever. This time we worked on inside-edge Mohawks. No, not Mohawks as in the weird funky hairstyle, it's actually a move in skating. You start on one foot, glide and switch to the other. It was really confusing at first, but I got the hang of it after practicing for so long. It looked really familiar though, and I'm pretty sure that I learned it before...
