Spring Strings

Tonight I went to see this strings concert at the Chan Centre (UBC). It's called "Spring Strings", and it includes VSB string students. I had a friend who was performing that night, and she's from Byng, so she gave my family tickets to watch her perform. It was pretty amazing, and I'm quite glad that I didn't fall asleep. Orchestras always make me want to go to sleep. It's just that it's so peacefully quiet, and it just lulls you into sleep. Band tends to be louder and more dramatic I guess, which is enough to keep you awake. Anyhoo, the performing schools tonight were Lord Byng Secondary, Queen Mary elem, Queen Elizabeth elem, Lord Kitchener elem, and L'ecole Bilingue elem. It was really cool! The Chan Centre was pretty small, but still, it was nicely decorated. This big chandelier hanging from the ceiling. I remember coming here last year, and being able to sit in one of those boxes on the upper levels. I enjoyed watching the grade 4s play (they were really small, and but amazing!), and then later on the senior orchestra. You could tell that they all worked pretty hard, and it was just amazing. There was this one Waltz that just sounded so beautiful....
After the concert, I actually found an old friend who now goes to Queen Mary. I totally didn't expect to see anyone I knew. Cool!
